MACON COUNTY SHERIFF WITH MACON COUNTY LIEUTENANTS
Lieutenant Larry Auton
Lieutenant Larry Auton is a graduate of Eisenhower High School and went on to attend Richland Community College where he obtained his Associates Degree in Criminal Justice. He began his career with the Macon County Sheriff's Office in 1995 and is currently serving his 27th year of service.

He is currently the Patrol Commander, as well as a Master Firearms Instructor, and oversees all firearms training for the Sheriff's Office.

Lieutenant James Root
Lieutenant James Root served in the United States Marine Corps from 1986-1990. He went on to attend Richland Community College where he received an A.A.S. degree in law enforcement. Lieutenant Root began his career with the Macon County Sheriff's Office in 1996 and is currently serving his 21st year of service as acting Coordinator of Macon County Emergency Management Agency. Lieutenant Root has held a variety of positions with the Macon County Sheriff's Office including working in the patrol division, the Illinois State Police Drug Task Force, Investigations and Patrol Supervisor. He is also the Chairman of the Local Emergency Planning Committee.

Lieutenant Jamie Belcher
Lieutenant Jamie Belcher is a graduate of Macon High School, now known as Meridian. During his senior year of high school, he was awarded the Illinois Sheriff's Association Scholarship for Macon County. After graduating in 1993, he went on to attend Richland Community College where he obtained his Associates Degree in Criminal Justice. While attending Richland, he completed his internship with the Macon County Sheriff's Office.

Lieutenant Belcher's career began with the Sheriff's Office in April of 1996 as a correctional officer. Since then, he has held a variety of positions including deputy, 2nd and 3rd shift patrol, detective, sergeant and patrol lieutenant.

Belcher is currently assigned as the Jail Superintendent and P.R.E.A. Coordinator.  Lt. Belcher is also the Social Media Coordinator and senior public information officer for the Sheriff's Office and Emergency Management.


Lieutenant Jeff Scheibly
Lieutenant Jeff Scheibly is a graduate of Eisenhower High School. He went on to attend Richland Community College and received his Bachelor's in Administration of Justice from Southern Illinois University. He began his career with the Macon County Sheriff's Office in 1995 and is currently serving his 27th year of service.

Lieutenant Scheibly is currently the Director of the Macon County Animal Control and Care Center.

Lieutenant Jonathan Butts, Administrative Lieutenant
Lieutenant Jonathan Butts is a lifelong central Illinois resident and proud graduate of Pana High School. After graduating high school in 1984, he went on to receive
a Bachelor of Science degree in law enforcement administration and a minor in political science/public administration at Western Illinois University. John is also a graduate of the Lincoln Land Police Training Academy and the FBI's National Academy Quantico, Virginia session #258. He obtained a Master's Degree in Organizational Leadership from Lincoln Christian University.
Lieutenant Butt's law enforcement and public safety service career began in August of 1989 as a patrol deputy. Since then, he has held a variety of positions including residential patrol deputy, juvenile investigations detective, patrol sergeant, court security supervisor, assistant jail administrator, patrol shift lieutenant, patrol division commander and chief of investigation. He is also the office's internship coordinator and oversees the motorcycle unit.

Lieutenant Antonio D. Brown, Operations Lieutenant
Lieutenant Antonio D. Brown is a lifelong Macon County resident and proud graduate of Eisenhower High School. After graduating high school in 1986 he had the privilege to serve in the United States Army.

Upon the completion of Lieutenant Brown's military service with an honorable discharge in 1989, he attended Richland Community College and began his career with the Macon County Sheriff's Office serving as a Corrections Officer in 1990.

Lieutenant Brown has served in several capacities within the Sheriff's Office, including Corrections Officer, Patrol Deputy, Fugitive Apprehension, Special Response Team, Detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Jail Superintendent and Chief of Investigations/Operations Lieutenant with the responsibilities of both the Investigation and Patrol Divisions. 


Lieutenant Kristopher Thompson, Jail Superintendent
Lieutenant Kristopher Thompson is a lifelong Macon County resident and proud graduate of Warrensburg-Latham High School. After graduating high school in 2002 he went on to attend Richland Community College and began his career with the Macon County Sheriff's Office working as a Corrections Officer in the jail in 2005.

Lieutenant Thompson has served in several capacities within the Sheriff's Office, including Corrections Officer, Patrol Deputy, Detective, Sergeant and Lieutenant.
